media round-up: dec. 2022
Dec. 31st, 2022 08:00 amI used livejournal circa 2005-2008 or so, and I have decided to try to go back to my roots and do a bit more blog writing. I have really enjoyed the media round-ups
flover has posted, so I decided to give it a go myself!
I have had this book for literal years (at least 5), and it has always been on my to-read list, but I have yet to make it all the way through this tome. Recently, I went to a museum (and had a ball), and it was an impetus to pick up this book again. I love thinking about the function of objects, what they tell us about the people who used them, how they have changed over time, whether it makes sense that a lot of objects are away from their country of origin, etc. and this book is perfect for considering all of that. Fingers crossed that this time I'll be able to finish reading this book.
I still fail at pretending I'm someone who likes podcasts.
I had heard the buzz about this movie, but it wasn't until one of my co-workers recommended me to watch it that I finally took the plunge. I really enjoyed this movie, and I was tickled by the degree of humor in the movie which I wasn't expecting. Also, I will not shut up about the comeback story for Ke Huy Quan, the actor who plays Waymond. Waymond in fact is my favorite character, his philosophy reminds me a lot of mine, which can be summed up by one of my favorite (often misattributed) quotes,
Waymond also has the best line in the movie, hands down.
My favorite song is "Stars and Raindrops" from Seungmin. I am who I am. I will never change. I will never improve.
Stop trying to make Kwangya happen, SM. My quibbles with SM's marketing strategies aside, at the end of the day I'm kind of a SM girl--a lot of my favorite artists are under that agency. For the past few years I've used SMTown as my NYE concert, and this year was the best year yet, probably because they didn't limit themselves to the songs released in that year. The standouts for me were "Priority," a trio song consisting of DBSK/TVXQ's Changmin, SNSD's Taeyeon, and aespa's Winter and WayV's "Phantom." Shout-out to WayV in their slore era wearing mesh shirts that left little to the imagination while performing "Love Talk (English version)."
I can already imagine getting roasted, but with iKON's change in agency I decided it was the time to finally check out their Killing Verse. And you know what? I've been lied to my entire life, because their songs are a lot mellower than I thought. Standout for me was "Long Time no See."
One day I will start gaming again. Obligatory play "To the Moon."
Until next time!

Everything Everywhere All at Once
I had heard the buzz about this movie, but it wasn't until one of my co-workers recommended me to watch it that I finally took the plunge. I really enjoyed this movie, and I was tickled by the degree of humor in the movie which I wasn't expecting. Also, I will not shut up about the comeback story for Ke Huy Quan, the actor who plays Waymond. Waymond in fact is my favorite character, his philosophy reminds me a lot of mine, which can be summed up by one of my favorite (often misattributed) quotes,
"Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place." -Iain Thomas
Waymond also has the best line in the movie, hands down.
So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say, in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.
